Indian air travelers gain a 48 hour penalty free cancellation period as DGCA overhauls refund rules

  • by
India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has introduced new passenger-friendly rules effective March 26, 2026. Passengers can cancel or modify flight tickets within 48 hours of booking without penalty; provided the travel date is sufficiently in advance (minimum advance travel condition applies). Airlines must process refunds within 14 working days, even for tickets booked via travel agents. Full refund of statutory taxes is mandatory. Airlines must clearly display cancellation and refund policies at the time of booking.
